## Translation Services in Toronto

- Translation services in Toronto for official use: we translate your documents into English or French, or into more than 30 other languages, with the translator’s affidavit sworn before a notary public, the format IRCC accepts for immigration and citizenship. Everything is done online, and the translation arrives by email.

## Certified translations for IRCC, the courts and universities

- Certified translation with the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a notary public
- Human translation, checked by a second translator
- Sent as a PDF by email, with a printed copy by mail to any Toronto address on request

## Where Toronto asks for a certified translation

- Toronto is the capital of Ontario. When a document is not in English or French, these are the offices that most often ask for a translation:

- IRCC, for permanent residence, Express Entry, study and work permits and citizenship, by online application
- Toronto City Hall and the North York Civic Centre, for the marriage licence, by appointment
- DriveTest centres, for the exchange of a foreign driver’s licence
- The Office of the Registrar General and ServiceOntario, for Ontario birth, marriage and death certificates
- Ontario courts, the University of Toronto, York University and Toronto Metropolitan University, banks, employers and landlords

## IRCC, and the offices in Toronto with rules of their own

- For IRCC, a translation by a translator who is not certified in Canada is accepted when it comes with the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a notary public outside Canada, and a certified copy of the original. That is our IRCC translation.
- Two Toronto offices have rules of their own. For the marriage licence, the City asks for a written translation by a certified translator of any ID not in English, and for a foreign divorce in another language, a translated copy with an affidavit sworn by a certified translator. For a foreign driver’s licence, Ontario accepts translations by foreign embassies and consulates and by qualified translators who show their credentials, dated within six months of the application.
- Check with the City or DriveTest whether they will accept our translation before you order: they may ask for a translator certified in Ontario, and Roxo is not a member of ATIO.

## Brazilians and Spanish speakers in Toronto

- Toronto had 1,286,140 immigrants in the 2021 census, 46.6% of its population, twice the share of Canada as a whole. About 21,755 people of Brazilian origin lived in the Greater Toronto Area, 15,425 of them born in Brazil, and Spanish is the fourth non-official language spoken at home in the city. The Consulate General of Brazil is on Bloor Street West.
- For a Canadian document going to Brazil, such as a birth or marriage certificate to be registered at a Brazilian registry office, the translation must be the Brazilian sworn translation (tradução juramentada), done by a sworn translator in Brazil. We provide that too.

## Did you know? Toronto

- Toronto’s official motto is “Diversity Our Strength”, and the census backs it up: 42.5% of the people of Toronto have a mother tongue that is neither English nor French, and 44.9% speak at least one other language at home.
- Ontario’s civil records are not kept in Toronto: births, marriages and deaths in the province are registered by the Office of the Registrar General in Thunder Bay, more than 1,000 km to the north-west, and certificates are ordered through ServiceOntario.
