Federal or provincial: who receives your document

For IRCC applications, such as permanent residence, Express Entry, study and work permits and citizenship, a translation with the translator's affidavit is accepted when the translator is not a member of a Canadian association. See our IRCC translation.

Provincial offices, such as the Quebec immigration ministry (MIFI) or the SAAQ, which handles driver licensing, may ask for a translator certified by OTTIAQ, the professional order of certified translators of Quebec (Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec). Roxo is not a member of the OTTIAQ, so check the instructions of the office that will receive your document before ordering.

Did you know? Facts about Quebec

French is the official language of Quebec, and the province selects many of its own economic immigrants through its own programs. That is why the same family may need one translation for the federal IRCC application and follow different rules for the provincial steps.

Do you do certified translations for Canada?

Yes. We translate your documents into English with a certificate of accuracy and the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a Florida notary public, the format Canada accepts for translations done outside the country. The deadline is the same as our certified translation in the United States.

What does IRCC require for translated documents?

For each document that is not in English or French, IRCC asks for the translation, an affidavit from the translator and a certified copy of the original. The affidavit is not needed when the translator is a member in good standing of a professional translation association, in Canada or abroad. IRCC does not approve or list translation companies.

Does IRCC require a notarized translation?

IRCC asks for an affidavit from the translator, sworn before someone authorized to take oaths; outside Canada, that is a notary public. Our translations for Canada include the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a Florida notary public, at no extra cost.

Can a family member translate my documents for IRCC?

No. IRCC does not accept translations done by the applicant or by a family member, such as parents, children, spouse or partner, siblings, grandparents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and first cousins, even when the relative is a translator.

Is the translation done by people or by machine?

By people. Every document is translated by a professional linguist and goes through double human review for accuracy, grammar, formatting and consistency before delivery.
