Hague Apostille in Brazil

Brazil has issued apostilles since 14 August 2016, when the Hague Convention came into force there (Decreto 8.660/2016). The apostille is electronic and carries a QR code you can verify on the CNJ portal.

Who Issues It

Only registries authorised by the National Council of Justice: Resolução CNJ 228/2016. No other office in Brazil can issue one.

How We File It

Digitally, through our partner registry. Because the process is electronic, the state of issue changes nothing: we cover all 27.

What Gets It Refused

A certificate past its acceptance window. Many Brazilian certificates are only accepted within 90 days of issue by the receiving authority.

By Issuing State

All 27 States

The state does not change the process or the price: the apostille is electronic and national.

Can you get my document apostilled?

Yes, through our sister service Roxo Apostille, which handles review, filing and logistics. The apostille itself is always issued by the authority of the country that issued the document. We do not handle federal documents (such as FBI records) or consular legalization.

What is an apostille?

An apostille is a standardized certificate, created by the 1961 Hague Convention, that authenticates the origin of a public document: the signature, position and seal of whoever issued it. It does not validate the content. It is accepted in the 120+ countries that are party to the Convention.

My Brazilian certificate is on paper or old. Can it be apostilled?

Yes. Through a partner cartório, a new digital copy of civil registry certificates can be issued from any Brazilian registry and apostilled electronically, with no need to go in person. A recent copy also meets agencies that require recently issued certificates.

Can you get a new copy (segunda via) of my Brazilian birth certificate?

Yes. Through a partner cartório, a new digital copy of birth, marriage and death certificates can be issued from any Brazilian registry, with no need to go in person, and apostilled electronically if needed. A recent copy also meets agencies that require recently issued certificates. Send us the details and you receive an itemized quote.

Can I apostille a Brazilian document in the United States?

No. A document is apostilled only in the country that issued it: Brazilian documents in Brazil, by a cartório authorized by the CNJ, and US documents by the Secretary of State of the issuing state. Brazilian apostilles are electronic, so you do not need to travel.

I am applying for Italian or Portuguese citizenship. What do I need?

Usually your Brazilian certificates apostilled in Brazil and translated into the country's language. The consulate or municipality defines the list and how recent each certificate must be. Send us their list and we build the complete order.
