How we translate a Spanish birth certificate
Most people from Spanish-speaking countries carry two surnames, the father's first and then the mother's, and many have compound first names such as María José or José Luis. We keep every name in the original order and spelling, with its accents and the ñ, and we never shorten or anglicize it. If your passport spells a name differently, tell us when you place your order.
The certificate is translated field by field: the name of the person registered, the date and place of birth, the parents and, when the certificate lists them, the grandparents, the book, page and entry numbers, the registrar and the date of registration. Dates, numbers and ID codes, such as the CURP on a Mexican acta, stay exactly as issued.
- Marginal notes record later changes, such as a correction or the recognition of a child by a parent, and they go into the translation
- Anything that cannot be read is marked as illegible, never guessed
Where a translated birth certificate from Spanish is used
Immigration and citizenship processes, school and university enrollment, marriage, bank accounts and inheritance matters often ask for the birth certificate in the language of the country. In your order, tell us where you will submit it, and we deliver the translation in the format that destination asks for. Which documents and which format are required is decided by the institution that receives them.
Upload a clear photo or scan of every side of the certificate, see the price and the deadline right away and pay online. You receive the translation by email as a PDF, and a printed copy by mail if you ask for one. For a certificate in any other language, see our birth certificate translation page, and for the next document of the same process, the marriage certificate translation.

How do I translate a birth certificate from Spanish to English?
Upload a clear photo or scan of every side of the certificate on our website, tell us where you will submit it and pay online. A native translator translates every field, a second translator reviews it, and you receive the English translation by email as a PDF.
Can you translate my birth certificate to Spanish?
Yes. We also translate birth certificates from English into Spanish, following the Spanish of the country where the translation will be used. Tell us the destination when you order.
Do you translate Spanish from Spain and from Latin America?
Yes. We translate documents from Spain, Mexico and every Spanish-speaking country, to and from English, Portuguese and other languages, and we follow the variant of the country where the translation will be used. Tell us the destination when you order.
A name is spelled differently from my passport. Can you change it?
The translation reproduces names exactly as they appear in the original document. If you need another spelling, such as the one in your passport, tell us when you place your order, before we start. If we made a typo, we fix it at no cost.
Do you translate the annotations and the back of my birth certificate?
Yes. The translation covers the whole document, front and back, including annotations, marginal notes, stamps and signatures. Send a photo of every side, and anything illegible is marked as illegible.
