Certified Translation in Ireland

Certified translation in Ireland is a full translation of your document with a signed statement from the translator confirming that it is accurate, the date and the translator’s name and contact details. It is what Immigration Service Delivery, the Irish embassies, the courts, universities and banks ask for when a document is not in English or Irish.

One translation for registration, residence and marriage

  • Statement of accuracy signed and dated, with the translator’s name and contact details
  • Notarisation by a notary public included, at no extra cost

What Irish immigration asks a certified translation to include

Immigration Service Delivery, part of the Department of Justice, asks for every document that is not in English or Irish to come with a full certified translation that includes:

  • A statement from the translator that it is an accurate translation of the original
  • The date of the translation
  • The full name and signature of the translator
  • The translator’s contact details
  • A translation done by someone other than you: translations made by the applicant are not accepted
  • For a visa applied for from outside Ireland: an apostille, from the country where it was made, on a translation done outside the EEA and Switzerland

Our certificate covers every point

Every certified translation we deliver for Ireland includes the first five points, so it serves your registration and Irish Residence Permit (IRP), residence as the family member of an EU citizen, the marriage notification, citizenship, the courts and universities. For citizenship, you upload our translation with a copy of the original document; certifying that copy is done by a solicitor or notary, not by the translator. One case asks for more: a visa applied for from outside Ireland needs the apostille. Tell us before you order and we will confirm what we can provide.

Certified, notarised, sworn or apostilled?

Certified translation: the translator signs the statement of accuracy. It is the standard for immigration, the Civil Registration Service and most universities and employers.

Notarised translation: a notary public confirms who signed the statement. Our statement is signed before a notary public in Florida, USA, at no extra cost (see notarised translation). If an Irish organisation asks for a notary or a solicitor in Ireland, check with them before you order.

Sworn and apostilled translation: Ireland has no sworn translators. An apostille on an Irish public document is issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs, for use abroad. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, the apostille goes on the translation itself, in the country where it was made.

What does Irish immigration require for translated documents?

For each document that is not in English or Irish, Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) and the Irish embassies ask for a full translation with a statement from the translator that it is accurate, the date, and the translator’s full name, signature and contact details. Translations made by the applicant are not accepted. For citizenship, the translation is uploaded with a copy of the original document. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, a translation made outside the EEA must also be apostilled in the country where it was made.

Can I translate my own documents for Irish immigration?

No. Irish immigration does not accept translations made by the applicant, and a translation made by a relative is not a good idea either: it has to come from a professional translator, who signs the statement of accuracy with their name and contact details.

Do you do certified translations for Ireland?

Yes. We translate your documents into English and certify each translation with a signed statement of accuracy, the date and the translator’s name and contact details, which is what Irish immigration and the Irish embassies ask for. The translation can be done outside Ireland for applications made in Ireland. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, a translation made outside the EEA also needs an apostille from the country where it was made.

Which languages do you translate?

Our core languages are Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian and French, and we work with many more, from Arabic and Chinese to German, Japanese and Russian. Tell us the language pair and we confirm availability before quoting.

How will I receive my translation? Can I print it?

You receive a non-editable PDF by email, with the certification, signatures and digital seals. You can print it freely. If you cannot open the file, we resend it on WhatsApp.
