Where Dublin asks for a certified translation

Dublin is in County Dublin, in Leinster. When a document is not in English or Irish, these are the offices that most often ask for a certified translation:

  • Immigration Service Delivery at 13-14 Burgh Quay, Dublin 2, for the first registration and the Irish Residence Permit (IRP) of everyone living in Ireland
  • The HSE Civil Registration Service at Joyce House, Lombard Street East, for marriage notifications and birth registrations
  • The Four Courts and the Criminal Courts of Justice, for divorce, custody, probate and court cases
  • Universities such as Trinity College Dublin, UCD and DCU, for admission with foreign diplomas and transcripts
  • Banks, employers, letting agents and solicitors, for statements, payslips and contracts

Brazilians and Spanish speakers in Dublin

Brazilians are the largest foreign group in Dublin City, with 11,188 people in the 2022 census, and the Embassy of Brazil is in Dublin 2. Many of our Dublin clients are Brazilian students and workers, with documents in Portuguese going to Burgh Quay, or Irish documents going back home.

For an Irish document going to Brazil, such as an Irish birth or marriage certificate to be registered at a Brazilian registry office, the translation must be the Brazilian sworn translation (tradução juramentada), done by a sworn translator in Brazil. We provide that too.

Did you know? Dublin

Brazilians are the largest group of foreign citizens in Dublin City: 11,188 people in the 2022 census, more than any other nationality living in the city.

Since January 2025, Burgh Quay registers new residents from every county in Ireland. Before that, people outside Dublin registered at their local Garda station, so for many newcomers to Cork or Galway the first immigration appointment is now in Dublin.

Do you do certified translations for Ireland?

Yes. We translate your documents into English and certify each translation with a signed statement of accuracy, the date and the translator’s name and contact details, which is what Irish immigration and the Irish embassies ask for. The translation can be done outside Ireland for applications made in Ireland. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, a translation made outside the EEA also needs an apostille from the country where it was made.

What does Irish immigration require for translated documents?

For each document that is not in English or Irish, Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) and the Irish embassies ask for a full translation with a statement from the translator that it is accurate, the date, and the translator’s full name, signature and contact details. Translations made by the applicant are not accepted. For citizenship, the translation is uploaded with a copy of the original document. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, a translation made outside the EEA must also be apostilled in the country where it was made.

Can I translate my own documents for Irish immigration?

No. Irish immigration does not accept translations made by the applicant, and a translation made by a relative is not a good idea either: it has to come from a professional translator, who signs the statement of accuracy with their name and contact details.

Is the translation done by people or by machine?

By people. Every document is translated by a professional linguist and goes through double human review for accuracy, grammar, formatting and consistency before delivery.

How will I receive my translation? Can I print it?

You receive a non-editable PDF by email, with the certification, signatures and digital seals. You can print it freely. If you cannot open the file, we resend it on WhatsApp.
