Brazilians and Spanish speakers in Waterford

Waterford had about 60,000 people in the city and suburbs in the 2022 census. Its largest foreign communities are British, Polish, Indian and Croatian, and newcomers from Brazil and Spanish-speaking countries also bring documents that need translating.

For an Irish document going to Brazil, such as an Irish birth or marriage certificate to be registered at a Brazilian registry office, the translation must be the Brazilian sworn translation (tradução juramentada), done by a sworn translator in Brazil. We provide that too.

Did you know? Waterford

Waterford is Ireland’s oldest city, founded by the Vikings in 914, and its name comes from the Old Norse Veðrafjǫrðr.

The Great Charter Roll of Waterford, from around 1372, gathers 15 royal charters in a single roll and carries the oldest known picture of an Irish city: one of the earliest official documents of the country is a Waterford one.

Do you do certified translations for Ireland?

Yes. We translate your documents into English and certify each translation with a signed statement of accuracy, the date and the translator’s name and contact details, which is what Irish immigration and the Irish embassies ask for. The translation can be done outside Ireland for applications made in Ireland. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, a translation made outside the EEA also needs an apostille from the country where it was made.

What does Irish immigration require for translated documents?

For each document that is not in English or Irish, Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) and the Irish embassies ask for a full translation with a statement from the translator that it is accurate, the date, and the translator’s full name, signature and contact details. Translations made by the applicant are not accepted. For citizenship, the translation is uploaded with a copy of the original document. For a visa applied for from outside Ireland, a translation made outside the EEA must also be apostilled in the country where it was made.

Can I translate my own documents for Irish immigration?

No. Irish immigration does not accept translations made by the applicant, and a translation made by a relative is not a good idea either: it has to come from a professional translator, who signs the statement of accuracy with their name and contact details.

Is the translation done by people or by machine?

By people. Every document is translated by a professional linguist and goes through double human review for accuracy, grammar, formatting and consistency before delivery.

How will I receive my translation? Can I print it?

You receive a non-editable PDF by email, with the certification, signatures and digital seals. You can print it freely. If you cannot open the file, we resend it on WhatsApp.
