A certified translator in Birmingham is a professional translator who signs a statement that the translation is accurate, with the date, their contact details and credentials, for UK Visas and Immigration, the courts, universities and the register office. You do not need to visit an office: we translate online and send the certified translation by email.
No. The Home Office asks for a translation it can verify, signed by a professional translator or a translation company, and it does not ask for a translator in Birmingham or anywhere in the UK. It does not approve or list translators either, so be wary of anyone who promises a ‘Home Office approved translator’.
Birmingham also trains translators: the University of Birmingham’s Department of Modern Languages runs an MA in Translation Studies, on campus and by distance learning, with training in translation memory and post-editing tools.
Translation qualifications and membership of a professional association are a sign of quality, but the Immigration Rules do not require them. Our credential is membership of the American Translators Association (ATA).
In England, notaries public are appointed and regulated through the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury, acting for the Master of the Faculties, who makes the rules that govern the profession.
The Home Office does not ask for a notary. A notarised translation is usually requested for documents going abroad, or by an organisation with a rule of its own. Our statement of accuracy is signed before a notary public in Florida, USA, at no extra cost; if an office in Birmingham asks for a notary in the UK, check with them before you order.

No. The Home Office, the UK government department in charge of immigration, does not approve, accredit or list translators or translation companies, and the UK has no sworn translators appointed by the state. It sets the format: a dated statement of accuracy with the translator’s or company’s name, signature, contact details and, for leave to remain and ILR, the translator’s credentials. Be wary of anyone who promises a ‘Home Office approved translator’.
No. The UK Home Office has to be able to verify the translation independently, so it cannot be done by you or by a relative, even one who speaks both languages. The translation must come from a professional translator or a translation company.
For each document that is not in English or Welsh, the Home Office asks for the original and a full translation it can verify independently. The translation must be dated and include confirmation that it is accurate, the full name and signature of the translator or of an official of the translation company, and their contact details. For leave to remain and indefinite leave to remain, it must also show the translator’s credentials. A notarised translation is not required.
By people. Every document is translated by a professional linguist and goes through double human review for accuracy, grammar, formatting and consistency before delivery.
