Translation services in Montreal for official use: we translate your documents into English or French, or into more than 30 other languages, with the translator’s affidavit sworn before a notary public, the format IRCC accepts for immigration and citizenship. Everything is done online, and the translation arrives by email.
Montreal is the largest city in Quebec. When a document is not in English or French, these are the offices that most often ask for a translation:
For IRCC, a translation by a translator who is not certified in Canada is accepted when it comes with the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a notary public outside Canada, and a certified copy of the original. That is our IRCC translation.
Quebec offices ask for more than IRCC. The SAAQ accepts the translation of a foreign driver’s licence only when it is done or authenticated by an embassy, a consulate or a member of OTTIAQ, of the Association of Legal Court Interpreters and Translators or of an association of the CTTIC. For a marriage, the officiant asks for an official translation by an OTTIAQ member, with the translator’s sworn statement, of any document not in French or English. To insert a birth or marriage from abroad into the Quebec register, the Directeur de l’état civil asks for a French translation by an OTTIAQ member, even of a document in English. A document already in French needs no translation.
The MIFI, which issues the Quebec selection certificate (CSQ), accepts translations made in Canada only from members of OTTIAQ, ATIO, STIBC or CTINB or from the embassy or consulate of the issuing country, and translations made abroad from a translator who belongs to a professional order or is authorized to practise. Roxo is not a member of OTTIAQ or of any Canadian association, so our translation does not meet the SAAQ, marriage or civil status rules, and you should check with the MIFI before you order. For the federal IRCC steps, our affidavit is accepted.
The island of Montreal had 652,725 immigrants in the 2021 census, 33.3% of its population and 53.9% of all immigrants in Quebec. Spanish is the non-official language most spoken at home in the Montreal metropolitan area. Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina have consulates general in Montreal, and the Colombian consulate counts 40,530 Colombians in its district, which covers Quebec and the Atlantic provinces.
For a Canadian document going to Brazil, such as a birth or marriage certificate to be registered at a Brazilian registry office, the translation must be the Brazilian sworn translation (tradução juramentada), done by a sworn translator in Brazil. We provide that too.
Montreal began in 1642 as Ville-Marie, a mission settlement led by Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve and Jeanne Mance. The city officially named Jeanne Mance its co-founder in 2012, and the settlement soon came to be known simply as Montréal.
In Quebec, each spouse keeps their own name after marriage: since 2 April 1981, civil rights are exercised under the name on the birth certificate. That is why the name on a foreign marriage certificate and the name on Quebec records may not match.
We do not have an office in Montreal, and you do not need to go anywhere: you upload your documents, see the price and the delivery date in the instant quote, and receive the certified translation by email as a PDF. Yes. We translate your documents into English with a certificate of accuracy and the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a Florida notary public, the format Canada accepts for translations done outside the country. The deadline is the same as our certified translation in the United States.
For each document that is not in English or French, IRCC asks for the translation, an affidavit from the translator and a certified copy of the original. The affidavit is not needed when the translator is a member in good standing of a professional translation association, in Canada or abroad. IRCC does not approve or list translation companies.
Yes. The rule accepts a translator who is a member of a professional association in Canada or abroad, or a translation with the translator’s affidavit sworn before a notary public outside Canada. That is the Roxo format: the affidavit is sworn before a Florida notary public.
IRCC asks for an affidavit from the translator, sworn before someone authorized to take oaths; outside Canada, that is a notary public. Our translations for Canada include the translator’s affidavit, sworn before a Florida notary public, at no extra cost.
